Education is the cornerstone of individual and community success. But with more than 1.2 million children dropping out each year, America faces an education crisis. The cost? More than $312 billion in lost wages, taxes and productivity over their lifetimes. These trends are reversible, but only when communities and public, private and nonprofit sectors work together.
United Way of Southwest Louisiana's goal is a 92% graduation rate.
Children enter school ready and are successful in primary school.
Youth graduate secondary school and have the knowledge, skills and credentials to obtain family sustaining employment.
UNITED WAY OF SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA HAS ALIGNED OUR EFFORTS TO HELP PREPARE CHILDREN, YOUTH AND YOUNG ADULTS TO SUCCEED IN SCHOOL AND LIFE. WE HAVE NOT AND WILL NOT TAKE A POSITION ON STANDARDS OR CURRICULUM AS IT IS NOT IN OUR FIELD OF EXPERTISE. THE WORKING RELATIONSHIP WE HAVE WITH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM IS INVALUABLE. WE RELY ON THOSE WITHIN THE EDUCATION SYSTEM TO HELP DIRECT OUR EFFORTS. THEIR EXPERTISE ALLOWS US TO PROVIDE THE BEST SUPPORT TO THEM AND THE CHILDREN THEY SERVE.
