KIDS VOLUNTEERING

Exciting News Just for Teens: Get Ready to Make an Impact!

SUMMER OF SERVICEWith summer almost in full swing, United Way Southwest Louisiana is excited to invite local teens, ages 13 to 18, to join our Summer of Service program and make a meaningful impact in our community. This unique opportunity helps combat summer brain drain and fosters the spirit of volunteerism and community engagement! Register today at unitedwayswla.org/summer-of-service.

Throughout the summer, youth volunteers can take part in projects lasting one to three hours each. We’ve designed these activities to ensure our teens stay engaged, busy, and connected with their peers while doing good for those in need.

“By showing children they can make an impact we create change that will resonate for generations to come,” says Denise Durel, President and CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “We are committed to fostering a community where everyone has more opportunities to succeed, and we can only do it together.”

Here’s a glimpse into our upcoming Summer of Service projects:

  • June 11: We are partnering with World Changers to make minor home repairs for local residents in need. Volunteers of all ages are welcome!
  • June 17: Our annual outreach day at Moss Bluff Senior Center, helping to clean and move furniture.
  • July 9: A visit to Calcasieu Care Center to build planter boxes and plant flowers for the residents.
  • July 14: Assisting Abraham's Tent with their lunch service from 11 AM to 1 PM.
  • July 22: Join us at our office (815 Ryan Street) to assemble Literacy Kits for elementary school children.

Research has shown the immense value of keeping young people active and engaged throughout the summer months. Participants will learn valuable skills and have the chance to meet new friends and deepen their understanding of our community’s diverse needs.

Don’t miss out on this chance to make a difference! Registration is open now; teens can sign up for as many activities as possible. To register or for more information, please visit unitedwayswla.org/summer-of-service.

Together, let’s build a stronger community where everyone is healthy, happy, and safe!
