Lake Charles, LA— The UNITEDGULF campaign by United Way Southwest Louisiana is currently active and accepting donations to support flood relief efforts in Kerr County, Texas. Community members can text UNITEDGULF to 40403 or visit unitedwayswla.org/unitedgulf to contribute.
Funds raised through the campaign are being used to provide immediate emergency assistance and meet the unmet needs of families and individuals impacted by the severe flooding. One hundred percent of all donations go directly to support relief efforts in Kerr County.
“Every time Southwest Louisiana has faced disaster, our neighbors across the region have stood by us,” said Denise Durel, President and CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “Now, it’s our turn to stand with the people of Kerr County. We want them to feel the same support and compassion others have shown us during our darkest moments.”
The UNITEDGULF campaign was established to enable United Way Southwest Louisiana to quickly respond and raise funds for neighboring United Ways along the Gulf Coast and surrounding regions following natural disasters. This ensures swift and effective delivery of critical resources where they are needed most.
Through this Initiative, United Way Southwest Louisiana has supported several Gulf Coast communities in times of crisis, including tornado survivors in Mississippi in 2023 and those impacted by Hurricanes Helene and Francine in 2024. In each case, UNITEDGULF enabled emergency resources and financial assistance to be delivered quickly and directly to local United Ways working on the ground.
“In the past, we’d organize supply drives, but that’s no longer the most effective way to help,” explained Durel. “Shipping delays, logistical barriers, and public health concerns have made monetary donations the best option. Nonprofits can respond more effectively when they can purchase exactly what is needed, when it’s needed.”
