United Way Southwest Louisiana is proud to announce the successful completion of its 2025 Summer of Service program, which showcased local youth's heart and generosity. Throughout seven impactful volunteer events, 55 teen volunteers dedicated 133 hours to uplifting neighbors and strengthening Southwest Louisiana.

This year’s program demonstrated the incredible difference young volunteers can make:

World Changers Home Repairs: Volunteers joined forces with World Changers to unload and sort donated goods.

Mosss Bluff Senior Center: Teens rolled up their sleeves to clean, organize, and move furniture for the center’s staff and visitors.

OHSEP Hurricane Evacuation Drill: Participants supported the Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, helping ensure the community is prepared for hurricane season.

Calcasieu Care Center: Volunteers built planter boxes and planted flowers, creating a cheerful outdoor space for local seniors.

Abraham’s Tent: Teens served lunch to community members experiencing food insecurity.

Literacy Kits Assembly: Volunteers packed educational kits for local elementary students, helping foster a love of reading.

Lake Charles Senior Center: The summer concluded with a day of games and meaningful connections with seniors in our community.

“These young volunteers brought energy, compassion, and hope to every project,” said Denise Durel, President & CEO of United Way Southwest Louisiana. “They remind us that building a stronger community starts with giving your time and heart.”

United Way Southwest Louisiana extends heartfelt thanks to each teen participating in the Summer of Service. Their kindness left a lasting ripple throughout the region and helped create a more connected and resilient Southwest Louisiana.
